Pich' Awards: 2005

The 2005 edition!  Here are the winners!

MVP Female:
WINNER: Clara Piche

For the second year in a row my grandmother has done it!  Last year it was letting me move in to the Weav', and dealing with problems financial and other.  This year she topped it by dropping my rent went I attempted school full-time, feeding me whenever she was home, and when the Daewoo unexpectedly died she fronted the dough for my new rig.  That's pretty much impossible to top.  My grandmother has shown all the support I could ever need.  For the second year in a row she's the reason I love my living spot, and and can afford to try things out.  She's all the grandmother a guy could ever ask for and for that she's doubled up as Pich' Female MVP of 2005!!

Aaron tells us he has either one two MVP awards or that he has to make a bowel movement.

MVP Male:
WINNER: Aaron Stata

For the second year in a row Aaron Stata takes home the hardware.  He might think it's for being a great roommate for the first 4 months.  Maybe even for getting me a job under him at Wal-Mart.  Perhaps then how after my car died how he got up early to come bring my ass in.  While all of those are good reasons the truth is Aaron played a big role in my return from St. Louis that put him well ahead of others.  While there I ran out of money.  After contacting the parents about the issue I spoke to Aaron.  He has the same bank as me and simply transfered me over some dough.  This allowed me to eat on Monday and have just enough money to make the trip home the next morning.  When the Sonic burger and fries hit my stomach I knew this was an act of a savior.  It may sound trivial but that day in St. Louis I was in DIRE straits to say the least.  Rather than getting amped for that night's Championship game I was worried how I'd gas up the rental car, and eat that day.  Aaron really came through and amongst all he's done he more than deserves the Pich' Male MVP of 2005!!!

Most Memorable Moment of the Year:
Being at Vermont's first round upset of Syracuse

Yeah right like this wasn't going to win!  Although my trip to St. Louis for the Final Four was life-altering to say the least, the upset of Syracuse was without a doubt the moment I'll never forget.  When I think about the greatness of that moment I always well up.  For more on my thoughts on this check out my link for "The Papers" at which I have my paper I wrote for class on this exciting moment and what it meant to me.

This couple has a case of the blueballs over their award!

Performance of the Year:
Aaron Stata and Nicki Izzo perform the ultimate garter/bouquet sequence

Sweet god, what a show this was!  To try and describe it is to do it no justice.  Let's just say that when two people who rarely grab the spotlight go crazy without the aid of booze these kids know how to do it right!  It featured a Weeman slide, some naughty dance moves, and a horse being saved as Nicki rode an Aaron instead of a cowboy.  It was quite the shocker and I'm glad I got to take the moment in.  Who cares if it was fixed for them to win?!

Rachael and her cat Rachel (long story) celebrate the award!

Comeback Female of the Year:
Rachael Horne

Rachael and I sure have had our ups and downs, but ever since I met her in late 2000 we've never gone to long between hanging out.  But towards the end of last summer we broke off contact.  Slowly at the beginning of this year we started to chat again. Since it was over 6 months without us really being around each other Rachael was qualified to win the Comeback of the Year Award.  However it was the great friendship that's grown between us, that nailed her down the award with really no challengers.

It seems odd that a former MVP, has become a Comeback Award winner, but I'm glad to have her back.  Those 6 months were simply weird without her.  Congrats Rach' on being the 2005 Female Comeback of the Year Award winner!!!!

Rookie of the Year Female:
Cara Gorman

Although I met Cara in late 2004 I didn't really get to know her until this year.  She played ping-pong with me at UVM (drunk and sober), embraced citing, and became a good friend.  Although she had a "bump" in her great 2005 year with the Pich' she didn't get off track of becoming Rookie of the Year Female.  She steadied the course with intramural football coaching, and inviting me to the UVM Christmas Party.  I know without a shadow of a doubt that, unlike last year's winner, Cara and I will always remain friends!  Way to go Cara!

Josh displays his back-to-back comeback award.

Comeback Male of the Year:
Josh Goyet

Who could have figured that the same guy could win back-to-back Comeback awards?  Well it's not really the same guy.  Josh made a splash last year that could not be ignored, but this year he captures the award after falling too far off the Piche radar while he got his life back on track.  He came back as an employee at UVM quickly regaining the friendship that was.  He filled Carl's shoes and continued to hold down the UVM fort after I left.  His relationship with his girlfriend Beth is going well, he's become the new "go to guy" at UVM, and soon I hope to call him co-worker again.  I've been glad to see Josh mature and be all the Bean that we all always knew he could be.  Congrats Josh!  You earned it!

Look at these crazy kids!

Couple of the Year:
Shawn & Katie Jacobs

When Shawn and Katie showed up on my doorstep one day in Early Spring I sure was surprised.  A couple of Comeback candidates emerged as well as them announcing their wedding, which they wanted me to be a part of.  I agreed and joined them for their big day (see pictures in The Weddings).  I could tell the time apart from each other had done both of them a world of good.  Now they seemed happier together than ever before.  I couldn't be happier for them.  Although since then they've been on the move back to the area I know things will always work out between this couple and in a VERY tight race they are the 2005 Pich' Couple of the Year!

Most Inspirational Person to Pich':
Ronald Fontaine

My grandfather has fought cancer all year long.  The Chemotherapy and such really takes it's toll on the body and yet he fights on.  I haven't seen him this year but talking to him the few times I have you hear the same familiar voice shining through the pain.  The truth is this should almost be a lifetime achievement award.  I've always admired my grandfather's demeanor.  He's always treated everyone with respect, always seen both sides of disagreements, and always kept his cool.  I don't think I've ever seen him angry in fact.  It's his way of life that I've always strived for.  It's tough but I often find myself in his shoes and I always try to handle it as he would.  When it comes to inspiring people my grandfather has always been an important figure for me.  However that coupled with his fight against cancer he has more than earned the Most Inspirational Award.

Beware: Bill Morin will put the F in U (I don't know what that means either)

The F U in Fun Award:
WINNER: Bill Morin

If anyone knows how to have fun it's Billy Morin.  Think about it.  You go out for a beverage.  Who do you call?  Bill.  9 times out of 10 he's good to go.  He's consumed more alcohol and good times this year than you and your best friend combined.  He's always up for a good time, and often will create one during lulls in activity.  See Halloween Party.  Of course it doesn't hurt that his whole family loves to party as well.  From June to Big Dan, from cousin Eddy to the Old Man.  Good times here sir, good fricken times!  Way to always be there for all the fun Bill.  You've started a brand new trend here with the F U in fun award!

Big Al's inbox excepted the award on his behalf. Pictured is his office sign.

Rookie of the Year Male:
Alan Maynard

What can we say about Alan Maynard?  Well he helped me form then Team Cite Racing, and although we only raced together once it was a tight team.  When the Geo went down my racing tank was fueled by Alan's season.  As he became "trophy whore" the rest of the unit and I enjoyed running out on the track more than an Olympian training for the 100 meter-dash.  In a VERY tight catagory I decided that based on our trip to "Bizzaro Friendlys," sharing The Upset, and taking Thunder Road by storm that it was more than good enough.  Let's just hope Alan has a spot on his shelf of accomplishments to add the Rookie of the Year Title.

One of the toughest tickets in ALL of sports!

Trip of the Year:

NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four from St. Louis, Missouri

Well at some point I hope to put up my story about my journey to St. Louis.  It's simply to huge to explain here.  Needless to say it was me for 5 days and 4 nights in St. Louis, by myself, on a limited budget.  The tickets were free so how could I not go?  It was a learning experience like you wouldn't believe.  Plus it was the first time ever in my well traveled career that I left the time zone!  The Final Four festivites were incredible!  I shot 2 hours of video including picking up random people, the biggest bracket ever seen, my "roommate" roach Steve, and checking out Busch Stadium before it's final season.  I also recieved a lot of support from folks back home as the funds, and a car rental snafu, caused me to borrow funds from the MVP and sleep in my rental car on the final night.  All in all it was a trip I'd never forget and if anyone ever gets a chance to go by god do it!

Justin dips his balls over the garbage. Why? Well... I influenced him on this one.

Specialty Awards

Justin St. Louis - For Overwhelming Influence

Ever since Justin moved in he's been an influence on me.  Wether it was getting behind the #84 Warrior, or simply getting in to the whole racing scene more than ever, Justin was certainly an influence on me.  However his biggest impact is found right here.  The two of us ran the once widely popular TeamCite.com.  This knowledge and work led me to create this site.  Although the cite has died it's influence will always be felt much like that of one Jew-Stain.  Karaoke, writing, and his sense of humor have also rubbed off on me positively.  So way to go Justin on the 2005 Pich' Speciality Award!

Lifetime Achievement Awards

Sue Ann Piche - For being a supportive Mom

Bernard Joseph Piche Jr. - For being a supportive Dad

From the minute I went from egg to fetus my parents have supported me.  This award has been a lifetime in the making, and will continue to be true for the rest of time.  My MVP awards were named after them because simply it almost goes without saying that they are the most important people in my life always.  It's hard to thank a parent for a lifetime of support.  A child trys to walk the straight and narrow, trys to make a parent proud.  However the fact is whether I've taken a wrong turn, or been on top of the mountain they've been there.  Allowing me to make and learn from my own mistakes.  Than most importantly, being there whether I succeeded or not.  I'm not a parenting expert, but someday when I have kids and make them grandparents, I'll be looking to the great example set by my parents to help raise my kids.  Thanks for all you've done, are doing, and will do in the future.
